Sinfonia Meccanica Poster

THE VOICE OF PRINTING MACHINES, TRANSLATED INTO MUSIC (AND CELEBRATED WITH A ONE-OF-KIND POSTER)

Sinfonia Meccanica is a project by Archivio Tipografico in collaboration with Studio 23.56 and Francesco Ameglio, first proposed as a sound installation within the walls of Archivio Tipografico on September 11, 2019.

Ameglio made the printing machines of Archivio Tipographico “ring”—recording the noises and then manipulating them digitally and creating five music tracks that take their name from the used machinery: Schelter & Giesecke Phoenix IV, a majestic German printing press from early 19th century; Grafix GX 2 EM, a highly efficient semi-automatic proofer; Hohner Rapid II, a practical and light platen machine; Heidelberg OHZ, the biggest and most intimidating machine of all; and Nebiolo Ideal 30, an old Turin glory nowadays transformed into a die-cutter. The installation was recorded and, together with a book built around the tape, was released by SØVN Records.

The Sinfonia Meccanica poster was printed in vivo during the first installation.

Available in yellow and red.

Archivio Tipografico is a letterpress printshop and specimen archive in Torino, Italy. Rick first met them on the Hamilton Hang, a virtual gathering of letterpress printers from around the world, in July of 2020. He went to their website, loved their work, and purchased the Pixelpress Printshop Poster and Sinfonia Meccanica Set (now sold out) for his own collection.

Davide and Debra began talking about their array of products and the logistics for getting them to our shop. Debra and Rick hand-selected some items and the AT team carefully packed and shipped them from Italy to share with you. We hope you love them as much as we do.

The Shop at MATTER is the only Archivio Tipografico stockist in the U.S. (and maybe in the world).
